No-KUPA Statement

Dear Editors

Perhaps we all are aware that Kathmandu University has not been developed　overnight. The reputation it has now has not been achieved in a day. The nature of　KU is different from other government universities in Nepal. Still the majority of　KU professors do not want this type of politically motivated association and itssimilar activities that disrupt the day-to-day functioning of KU.

Mistakes can be corrected by friendly, collegial and affable ways. What is the　mistake of Dean and Registrar if a faculty member's contract comes to an end? Is　it logical that contracts to be renewed because of the pressure created by a group　of 10/12 people who represent about 5% of total university staffs? Shouldn’t we　consider the performance of faculty members while renewing　contracts?

We urge that the media persons not to come under the influence of a bunch of people　who try to play with politics. University professors should be focused on their　research that can contribute towards the betterment of the society. Why not you　write that professionals should be professionals? Why not you make a case thatproviding low quality education is to make democracy unsustainable? Is not　well-grounded professional education essential for loktantra? Why not you raise　the issue of educational wastage?

We also urge that so-called KUPA affiliated people stop coming under the influence　of those people who want KU to be another TU and other public institutions which　are in the verge of collapse. Has students paid money for you so-called movement?

We urge that the university authority should maintain conducive work environment　by eliminating disturbing elements from the university.
