It's against Raaj not against Raj
Ghanshyam Bhatt, PhD
English is a funny language sometimes. A few months ago I had two students in my class Kneller and Knou. Obviously I had to ask them about how their names be pronounced. One time I had two colleagues named Juhn and Juan.
Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between what is fact and what is fiction, what is real and what is virtual, and what is actual and what is possible.
The date goes back to 1994 when I joined Kathmandu University together with very energetic and your faculties. It was my pride to be among them as they were highly motivated and the intuition they were working in was only a few years old, meaning more responsibility and opportunity. On top of that the VC and registrar once in a while would come and teach us the ethics of teaching, academics honesty, academic excellence and other ways being a good citizen.
The youngsters believed in them, there were many reasons to believe them, honestly speaking. Dr. Pushpa Adhikary used to encourage us to participate in Nepal University Teachers Association's (NUTA) activities. Having huge teaching load, less remuneration, and lack of facility were unimportant as the morale was very high among us.
Some of their teachings: Be excellent teacher or you leave to be fired, be a good academician or else you are not fit, teach your class well and maintain discipline in the academia or else you lose your job. Do some extra administrative work it's the part of your job. Work even Saturdays and Sundays if KU requires you to do so, for the sake of an institution. In fact some people have lost their jobs in the past because they were unable to update (?) or upgrade (?) them. Several of us are not with KU anymore because of whatever reasons but the pleasant and unpleasant experience is always around us. We always had responsibility but we never had any opportunity. Now KU teachers and staffs are pointing their fingers at the authority, the authority once thought is the supreme authority and an authority forever. Riding luxury cars and providing employment to their own, and taking other advantage one way or the other, probably is a good example of not knowing the difference between what is real and what is virtual. The point has come to lose all these things, a cruel reality.
There are allegations of nepotism, financial irregularities, and other academic matters like promotion, hiring and leave , on top of that KUPA has come up with a complete management change to save KU. The nepotism is crystal clear, I don't need to mention it here. The hiring committee is a joke at KU, believe me or not.
A hiring committee member asked the spelling of KNOWLEDGE to a friend of mine when being interviewed for lecturer at KU. This shows the knowledge of hiring committee. I myself was interviewed three times in KU for different positions but every time the same committee. What were they trying to know from me three times? The CEO of KU can't even speak a work clearly; he qualifies for the position because he belongs to a privileged family. There are several other ridiculous facts about the administration and examination, which my ethics don't allow me to publish here.
Under these circumstances should you stick to your position, it will be hard for me to believe whether what you said was fact or fiction, real or virtual. What happened to your principle when your relatives are seen around the campus and thrash people, what about when they are busy in defaming your own people simply because they raise voices against misdeeds. What makes you think that you can't face them if you really believe in fact, what makes you scared if your actions are actual, and what makes you believe in No-KUPA if you believe in real? Now KUPA wants to do exactly what you told us to do a long time ago. Transparent administration and accounts, participation in decision-making, shared thought in hiring and policy making, and complete management change to avoid nepotism, which is the root cause of ineffectiveness and inefficiency.
From what you taught us, if your teachings were real, fact and possible, instead of going to see Hem Raj Gnyawali, and requesting him not to publish anything against you, I would listen and face them, instead of trying to sideline or defame someone because he dared to speak, I would encourage him and make him speak for me and in fact I would reward him for doing so. If someone points a finger at me, I would rather look a step back and see what went wrong instead of assuming that I am always right and others are always wrong.
It took me a while how to pronounce kneller (neller) and know (knou), Juan (arabic Juan), and Juan (Hispanic) but I failed to understand your teachings. Based on what you taught us, in the past, you know Sir, what I would do?; I would immediately step down and clear the way for independent investigation against the charges because,
Respected Sir,
It's not a fight against any raj, simply it is a fight against Raaj, which you must admit you have.

Dear Ghanshyam Sir,
Thanks for nice write-up. Regarding Pushpa Raj and Suresh Raj, you have rightly mentioned that these two gentlemen have failed to do what they preached. Sadly, they are now turning against those people who supported them overwhelmingly. I hope Pushpa Raj and Suresh Raj has by now realized how hollow they are.
Unlike these two gentlemen, we should do what we preach. So, throwing these two jackals out of KU must be our main goal now.
A Former Student of these Rajs
You are absolutely right that this movement is against the nepotistic Raaj of Suresh Raj but not against himself. But for many bootlickers, there is no difference between Suresh Raj and his nepotistic Raaj. And these servile mentality never know what is personal dignity. So, they would continue to lick Suresh Raj's boot while helping his abhorable Raaj to perpetuate. However, KUPA and others should not hesitatet o teach Suresh Raj a lesson for introducing such sordid Raaj in KU.
A colleague
Ghanshyam Sir,
Merry Christmas.
May Jesus give good wisdom to Suresh Raj.
