Dismal picture

The ongoing arm-twisting actions of Suresh Raj and recent suicide of Buddhi Bahadur Biswokarma have had a negative impact on the KU's reputation. KU watchers as well as those engaged in the academia say that despite the overwhelming opposition to Suresh Raj in KU, the responses of Nepal government have been discouraging. The belief is that this is largely due to the bootlicking ability of Suresh Raj, services of which G.P. Koirala has been availed of in recent weeks and in part due to the inefficiency of Ministry of Education of Nepal. The KU movement is something to be proud of as it sowed the seed of collective resistance to Suresh Raj and his authority in KU. Faculties and staffs of KU have been doing their bit to draw attention of all the concerned into the KU imbroglio once more, aiming in few weeks to put an end to Suresh Raj regime. However, in view of widespread network of corrupt people in Nepal, that may still be a difficult task. But once faculties and staff go ahead, no body in KU will ever be able to quash their power.

No wonder KU has been recognized as an excellent University both by guardians and students. And yet recognitions are still shying away from right destination, the faculties and staffs, who must receive it. Academic freedom and organizational rights of faculties and staffs are some of the main elements that can ensure recognition of their hard work in turning KU into a reputed organization. The ChangeinKU blog, the apex KU watcher body, comprising both present and past faculties, has done well to promote recognition of faculty members of KU in different schools. The past students as well as well wishers of KU have also put in their bit. It has been made clear to Suresh Raj and his cronies many times in our blog that we will not rest assured unless faculties and staffs of KU get their due recognition.

The Suresh regime that once hoodwinked entire Nepali cross-section remains exposed because of our tireless efforts only. Consequently, all other efforts of Suresh Raj and his cronies have nose-dived into oblivion due to lack of credibility. The situation in KU is quite serious at present. It is not only the corruption and Nepotism of Suresh Raj and his cronies, but also the recent trends of Goonda mobilization and threats which should be considered really dangerous for future of KU.

The NUTA as well as other teaching and non-teaching staffs’ bodies could join hands with faculties of KU to formulate a better strategy to dislodge Suresh Raj from KU. One way of doing this is continuing present agitation with due support of NUTA and other staffs bodies. The Education Ministry also needs to be approached with solid evidences of nepotism and corruption of Suresh Raj regimee in KU. The recovery of lost prestige and reputation of KU will be possible only when Suresh Raj will be thrown behind the bars for his crime against academia of Nepal. If Suresh Raj is sacked, reputation of KU will be further improved and for that none should wait to do their bit to try to change the bleak picture of KU.
