Brother tries to rescue Suresh Raj
It appears that the self-declared saint of Kathmandu University, Suresh Raj Sharma is now busy staging a new drama by getting his brother come to his rescue. This is known after reading today’s Kantipur vernacular daily. Kantipur vernacular daily has published one letter from Jalan Kumar Sharma, a man who is currently tried by Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and who had resorted to open intimidation of the faculty members within the KU premise on the prodding of his elder brother Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma.

In Support of KU
In Support of KU
I read about KU on June 28th and 29th. Only truth and actual things must be published. If there are one-sided information, then it may leave negative impact on society.
It has been made public that there exists financial irregularities, nepotism, favoritism and irregularities in the promotion of the professors. Had university been reeling under such problems, how come KU could progress this much? The first democratic government after 1991 drafted the KU act. Only when the KU act was put into practice, it was possible to have a university outside the Kathmandu. By now KU has turned into one of the chief educational institute for providing higher eduation. Peoples and professors come here from both within and outside the country for learning and teaching.
KU was provided necessary resources by some internal and foreign donors. The daily expenses are met with the monthly and yearly tuition fees paid by the sons and daughters of Nepalis. There is no question of financial irregularities in that. Moreover, the irregularities generally take place in governmental resources. Whatever is received from the donors will have to be made fully accountable.
There has been discussion on duration of the leaderships of KU. In old and already established institutes, the government generally continue with the same leadership for one or 2 terms in maximum. However, KU is not an organization with full governmental investment. For the setting up this institute, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and their own visions have worked a lot and it is natural that they remain at the helm of affairs for a longer period in order to provide stability and longetivity to the institute.
Simialrly, there are discussions of professional association of the professors. Such associations can be necessary or can not be necessary. It can be necessary in those universities where the expenses are met with 90 to 95 % of the governmental funding. Because, there it is sure that the resources will always be available. However, in any organization where 75 to 80% resources are to be collected from the students, if academic sessions are disturbed, the resources may be affected. When focussed on purely professinal issues, associations can never do bad. However, if it is expanded towards political arena, then it would invite some difficulties.
