Enduring Harassments and violence in KU

Official harassment being dismissed as not a serious problem by many is a cruel reality for the majority of employees of KU. Explicit forms of official harassments are evident in KU, through mobilization of CIAA accused siblings of Suresh Raj, local goons of Bel Prasad Shrestha (A member of now dissolved Rajsabha), relatives of Suresh Raj Sharma and finally the officials in KU hierarchy. Because of these harassments, one diligent employee of KU, Mr. Buddhi Bahadur Vishwakarma, has already lost his life in KU. Yet, civil society, government of Nepal, NUTA and TUTA are silent on this issue. We can not believe that recent incidents in KU have come to their attention, especially when KU is known as a university where students come from who is who of Nepal’s officialdom.

It won't be far from reality to say that almost all the parents of KU students are aware of official harassments meted out by bloodthirsty regime of Suresh Raj. However, most of them have chosen to remain silent except in some occasions. Guardians of KU students too need to exercise their influence on government of Nepal as their wards are getting educated in very filthy environment created by Suresh Raj in KU.

Official harassment, which is being exercised in KU, is of two types: One is direct and meted out to the faculties under supervision of Chief Administrative Officer Mukund Prasad Upadhyay (another brother of VC H. Suresh Raj Sharma). This form of harassment is being mastered by Suresh Raj Sharma clan and for this purpose they have already set up one army of mandales. Secret parties are conducted in various resorts of Dhulikhel in presence of Suresh Raj. It has been rumoured that sometimes Suresh Raj makes presentations in such meetings with powerpoint slides and all details of the employees to be attacked in KU.

Another one is creating an intimidating environment for the recipient by threats of defamation, sacking, firing, and attacking personal lives of parents and other relatives. For this purpose Suresh Raj has been exhorting his Deans, domesticated Jantu like Pushparaj, Tadpole like Bhadraman and hitmen like Bhola Thapa. Generally, the victims of official harassment are faculties and staffs who are sons of ordinary Nepalis.

Nonetheless, at this point, it is noteworthy to observe that despite absence of support from Government of Nepal, faculties and staffs of KU are carrying their battle quite logically and quite openly. Though Suresh Raj is pumping in millions of Rupees to make this movement a non-issue, yet it is likely that it would totally discredit him.

There is no doubt that media has a key role in promoting intervention through wider dissemination of the information related to present mess in KU. Kantipur, Parewa and other vernacular dailies and weeklies have helped a lot throughout the movement. Yet there are some journalists who keep on praising Suresh Raj because of largesse of Suresh Raj in the form of professorships, scholarships, admissions into Engineering and Medicine and other regular monetary dole outs. This blog has constantly exposed Suresh Raj regime and would keep unearthing many more sagas of official harassment in KU. So, we urge all the stakeholders of KU not to endure violence of Suresh Raj in silence.
