Suresh Raj's new supporter: Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya
After reading "आत्मबल र मनोबलका नमुना" (Example of confidence and moral authority) penned by Dr. Jayaraj Acharya today in Kantipur daily, I am set into thinking. Basically, this piece was to highlight literary achievements and personal crisis of another renowned Nepali Jagadish Ghimire. However, for reasons best known to him, Dr. Acharya has done which majority of us find detestable. In the middle of throwing light on literary and social persona of Jagadish Ghimire, Dr. Acharya has forcefully inserted Suresh Raj's name and started praising him. Moreover, to spray some chilli powder on our wounds, he has even dared to question our credibility.
Why former representative of Nepal to UN and present boss of Nobel Academy is doing this?
Is it because of his gratitude to Suresh Raj for granting affiliation to Nobel Medical College in which he was one of the promoters?
Praising Suresh Raj Sharma now is nothing other than praising a criminal who presides over an extremely detestable scheme of harassing someone to death. If one goes by the actions of Suresh Raj, which has caused an irreparable damage to the spirit of KU, praising Suresh Raj is now next to impossible. No sensible human being, be it a student or a teacher or a staff, can ever praise Suresh Raj. Suresh Raj has used goons, tried to divide faculties, defamed faculties who have imparted education to his deceased daughter, vandalized personal dignity of faculties and staffs and ultimately used medieval castiest thought process to harass one dalit member of KU to end his life. This is the reality of KU movement and this is the reality of nefarious personality of Suresh Raj. And our former representative to UN is making his opinions based on some hearsay and claiming that we have not allowed, rather disturbed, "the visionary" to work till the end of his life.
Dr. Acharya has represented Nepal in UN and is presently heading an academic institution. He has debated for equality amongst developed, developing and underdeveloped nations in UN fora. He has raised issues that deal with emancipation, freedom and liberation. His past actions make us believe that he stands for equality in every walk of human lives. And his past roles make us believe that he would invariably lend his support to the students, teachers and staffs of KU who know the excesses of Suresh Raj and his corrupt and nepotistic academic administration in KU. It is generally expected that a personality involved in a world organization knows the importance of organizational rights and how the organization prevents a rising of despot. But, Dr. Acharya has, this time, preferred to praise Suresh Raj and lamented that we have prevented Suresh Raj to work till death. By penning this piece, Dr. Acharya has not only jettisoned his past credibility but also raised some doubts.
One thing that we can not miss in this article is Dr. Acharya's lamentations. Concurring with Jagadish Ghimire, he also laments that we are turned into a country where we sell our girls, indulge in gambling and drinking. And to make both the ends meet, we have to ultimately go abroad to earn our livelihood. Dr. Acharaya has , therefore, clearly disliked embarkation of hundreds of youths from Nepal everyday. And he preaches to our political class quoting Kautilya that "राजनीतिले जनताको आर्थिक जीवनमा सुधार ल्याउन सकेन भने त्यो वास्तवमा राजनीति नै होइन, राजनीतिक वेश्यावृत्ति हो "(If politics can not improve economic lives of people, then that is not politics rather a political prostitution). On this point I agree with Dr. Acharya. But, my question to him is what about so called academicians? Can an academician behave as a politician? Should academicians ever go for commercialization of education while creating a wide gulf between haves and have nots? and most importantly, should an academician ever throttle the voice of freedom?
Fans of Suresh Raj can happily criticize politicians of Nepal. Many Nepalis are doing it. So, there is nothing bizarre when Dr. Acharya does it. But, what is weird in his piece is praising of a communal, racists, murderer personality in academia like Suresh Raj as an "engineer of development" in Nepal. Nepal has remained underdeveloped not only because of politicians and kings, but also because of the bootlickers who have been able to penetrate our academia. For example, Suresh Raj has hobnobbed with palace in his early academic life. He became an officer in a school which was set up mainly to educate the king's wards. And once he pleased the palace and the powers there were, he smoothly sailed through his professorship in Tribhuvan University. Dr. Acharya might view Suresh Raj as a good product of TU, but many other personalities including yours truly strongly believe that it a rotten apple set up in academia to impose servitude. And KU movement has definitely validated our opinions about Suresh Raj.
In a nut shell, after reading Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya, I have come to conclusion that past good actions never make a man good doer for future. Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya's unwarranted praise of Suresh Raj clearly indicates that. Moreover, in view of his being a promoter of Nobel Medical College Biratnagar (Read our previous posting about it here) and the same medical college getting affiliation from Kathmandu University indicates that Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya has tried to pay back the favor. So, Dr. Acharya, notwithstanding his preaching and sermons, is no different from other crooks and supporters of Education Mafia in Nepal. By attacking us, Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya has not only turned himself into a devil's advocate but also sullied his own personal reputation. At last, Dr. Jaya Raj must know that we, including late Buddhi Bahadur, are neither careerists nor unionists. We stand for freedom and equality in academia. Can you hear us?

APJ Abdul Kalam is coming to KU in convocation. I wonder if he will be kept in dark about KU and Suresh Raj and company may use him for personal benefit. I request all well wishers of KU to do everything in their capacity to prevent this. Let the guest come to KU but also let him know about the frauds and corruptions of the KU authorities.
