Abused givers : merciless takers

In Academia, where teachers/instructors/technicians are integral part of the system, it is often taken for granted that each of them always remain the 'givers' of academia. Teachers must give valuable insights to students: instructors must give unconditional, undiluted and undiminished instructions; and technicians must offer help of all kinds to the students.
In this context, all of them are not only employees of a university but also elder members of the fraternity. However ungrateful and defiant vice-chancellors, deans, registrars, Exam-controllers, CAO, and HODs have always remained 'takers' of the university. Though they are supposed to facilitate 'givers' of academia, yet there is a kind of role reversals taking place in Kathmandu University.

Suresh Raj Sharma, Sitaram Adhikary, Bhadraman Tulahdar, Pushpa Raj Adhikari, Mukunde Upadhyaya and Bhola Thapa has always remained 'takers' in KU. First they took powerful positions, then they took all the privileges and thereafter they kept on taking only.

No body objected to them when they took heavy commissions in;
(1) granting affiliations to Medical colleges
(2) granting construction contracts
(3) buying V-Sat set up for KU
(4) buying Resort in Dhulikhel
(5) granting contracts for KUMS Building in Kathmandu

There are long list of other miscellaneous items where also they maintained their distinction of being top-most bribe 'takers' of KU. And in return, staffs and teachers of KU simply demanded that they,too, be allowed to be 'takers ' of some rights to freedom, expression and organization. But, in bribe taking land, taking and exercising one's own right is perhaps the biggest crime. So thought Suresh Raj and he took the life of Buddhi Bahadur in retaliation. When staffs protested his life taking steps, he took their jobs also. Had KU movement not happened, we would have never seen and known that Suresh Raj can take people's lives also. KU movement has proved that he is a cold-blooded murderer like Upendra Yadav of Madheshi forum. The only difference between Upendra Yadav and Suresh Raj lies in outsourcing and in-sourcing. Upendra Yadav employs criminal Hindu extremists of India, but Suresh Raj employs notorious Mandale Bhola Thapa of KU.


Even with changing times, parents of KU students have never realized that putting their children in KU with Suresh Raj as a VC would have bad impression on them. Young minds generally emulated wrong actions more ferociously than good deeds. When Harshad Mehta bulldozed Indian Stock Market in 1994, Many youths there considered him as an Icon. So, it is likely that there may be many youths in KU influenced by criminal mindsets of Suresh Raj Sharma. This means, if our young students, start functioning like Suresh Raj does, our Nepali society would never progress. In such situation what shall we do? Shall we allow this demon called Suresh Raj to continue demonizing formative young minds or shall we put him behind Dhulikhel jail? This is what KU guardians need to realize and take actions as soon as possible.


KU guardians also need to know that presently most of the teachers, staffs, lab-boys, technicians are all have become 'abused givers' in KU. They give all that they can to make another life better. Unlike Suresh Raj, they try to identify the inherent goodness in themselves by helping every student. But in this age of increasing greed, lust and shameless materialism, 'takers' like Suresh Raj, Sitaram, Bhadraman, Pushpa Raj who receive the largesse of these 'giver' are prone to show ungratefulness and easily forget that without teachers, staffs, and lab-boys KU would not function properly. These people who are taking favors relentlessly and ruling KU have started abusing all the 'givers' in such a way that there is a palpable threat to every 'giver's' life in KU. 'Givers' just need to say something, these 'takers' would jump at opportunity and take the life itself. In such situation, how can we say that these 'takers' of KU would remember their benefactors or their kindness or repays the debt and allow every one to have successful career in KU?


Present attitude of 'takers' of KU is partly due to laziness, indulgences and wasting away opportunities of the 'givers' also. If 'givers' of KU had already shown Suresh Raj or Bhola Thapa their rightful places using right methods, then the 'givers' would not have to regret their kindness. Because of this small mistake on the part of the 'givers', a relationship is being built on KU. Definitely this relationship is now built on the flimsy foundation of 'you are the eternal 'giver' and I, the eternal 'receiver'. It is true that this relationship will collapse and the day will come when present bribe and life 'takers' would start taking slaps on their cheeks also. But, when will it collapse is the mute point. 'Givers' of KU can no longer remain silent with fractured relation, soured heart and annihilation of human values by brutal 'takers' of KU. With increasing ungratefulness and resentment of 'takers', 'givers' of KU would continue to be abused. And tolerating such abhorable regime will be nothing but cowardice on the part of the 'givers' of KU.
